Was there a watershed moment where everyone stopped buying the bosh? You know, like when you see Mums in the queue at Tesco’s with a double cd with a massive “DEEP HOUSE” banner on the front, and realise your “underground” selection might not be all that “underground”? Or was 140bpm taps-aff techno just killed off because blokes got bored of only seeing blokes in techno clubs? Or, was it, more likely, since the deeper side of house music is still so massively popular, that the über-cool kids have put their deep house in the techno chart to be as far away from Oliver Heldens as possible? Whatever happened, I’m now sending you something I’m going to call techno. And its from Daniel Trim. If you don’t know him, his last EP was his biggest release to date. Both “Asimo” and “Odet” hit the upper ends of the Beatport Tech House charts and got smashed to bits by the likes of Jackmaster, Skream, Alex Metric, Jimpster, Nice7, Sasha and John Digweed. Here he again shows his versatility with 3 standout tracks that have everything from the gentle, dance-floor cajoling deep house of “Our Light” through the techy, heads down groove of “H.O.U.S.E.” to “Rainbow Rising”, a (ahem) techno monster that will fit right in next to Recondite, Butch or Fur Coat.
